Celem ochrony rezerwatu jest zachowanie przełomowego, o charakterze górskim, odcinka rzeki Wel z otaczającym go grądem zboczowym Aceri-Tilietum, z licznymi chronionymi i rzadkimi gatunkami roślin i zwierząt.
