Celem ochrony rezerwatu jest zachowanie ze względów naukowych i dydaktycznych fragmentu liściastego lasu mieszanego o charakterze zespołu naturalnego dębowo-grabowego z udziałem jesionu, wiązu i lipy. Teren rezerwatu posiada ponadto wartości geologiczne dzięki licznie występującym głazom narzutowym.
